Why are page numbers missing for some books?

Newer indexes include page numbers, but some older ones don’t. Cookbooks often come in several editions (hardcover, paperback, anniversary), and a page number from one edition can be wrong in another, so early indexes left them out. We now include page numbers, and we’re adding them to older books as we go.

Two things to know:

  1. If you own a linked edition, the page number may not match your copy, so use the book’s own index to find the recipe.
  2. Magazines have always had page numbers, since each issue is a single edition.
