For library patrons - how to use Eat Your Books

The library search feature allows library patrons to search for recipes in the cookbooks on the shelves of the library they belong to. Ask your library if they are a member - if they are, then they will give you the sign-in information. If they aren't an EYB member, please suggest they look at the Help page for library admin or contact info@eatyourbooks.com.

Please Note: Eat Your Books does not give you the complete recipe, it helps you find recipes in cookbooks and you then use the cookbook to cook from.

Sign-in options for library patrons

Signing in at the library:
Your library will supply you with the URL to enter to access their EYB account. This will be either a QR code that can be scanned with a phone camera or a short access URL.

Signing in from a location other than the library (e.g. at home):
1. If you sign-in at a different location, then you also need to enter the library username, which they should have supplied you.

Viewing the library's cookbook collection
You can view your library's cookbook collection and use Eat Your Books to help you decide what your next cookbook loan will be. 

1. Click the tab at the top with your library name (e.g. ABCLibrary) then select Books from the drop down. 
2. Now use the green search box to search by book title or author.
3. Or use the filters on the right (or under the Filter menu on a phone) to search by book types such as topic, special diet, ethnicity, season/occasion, etc.

How to use the library recipe search
You can search for any recipe in your library's cookbook collection - you might want to use this feature to help you decide what your next cookbook loan will be. 

When you sign-in, you will land on the search page for the recipes in your library's cookbook collection. You can search for recipes using either:

• Search Box - You can do a simple word search from the search box, which looks for the word/s in recipe title, author name or ingredients). For example if you're looking for a Chocolate Cake you would put in those words, but you could also add Raspberries so it would only select recipes that include that ingredient.
  1. Add chocolate cake raspberries in the search box.
     
     

or

• Filters - You can use the filters on the right (or under the Filter menu on a phone). These filters allow you to search with endless possibilities and narrow your search results down from thousands of recipes to just a few by specifying other criteria. In this example:
   
  1. Use Filter By on the right hand side. Select + to open up a section and sub levels.
  2. Cakes, large - is selected from Recipe Types, Baking, Cakes large
  3. Raspberries - is selected from Ingredients, Fruit, Berries, Raspberries
  4. Entertaining & parties - is selected from Occasion, Cooking for..., Entertaining & parties
